Thomas E. O'Brien, Jr., 76, of 563 26th Avenue Court, East Moline, Illinois, passed away on Friday, October 28, 2016, at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf, Iowa, after a long and courageous battle with heart disease and a short term battle with pancreatic cancer. Tom was born April 26, 1940, in Sharon, the son of Thomas E. and Coramae (Troutman) O'Brien. He attended St. Joseph Elementary School, Sharon Junior High School, and was a member of the Class of 1958 at Sharon High School. He then attended Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa, where he met his future wife, Katherine “Kay” Doty. After graduation from Loras in June, 1962, he served on active duty with the US Marine Corp Reserves at Parris Island and Camp Lejeune. He married Kay on June 8, 1963, at St. John's Catholic Church, Andrew, Iowa. Tom worked for the IBM Corporation for 30 years, from which he retired in 1993 after holding various sales positions and sales management positions. After retirement, Tom was a volunteer for several years with the local SCORE (Service Corps of Retired Executives) Chapter. He also developed a passion for the game of golf. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Mont and Daniel. Funeral services were held Friday, November 4, 2016, at St. Anne Catholic Church, 555 18th Avenue, East Moline. Private committal services were in St. Mary's Mausoleum. | ![]() |
