Richard Philip "Herk" O'Hara, 75, of 9828 Milla Circle, Austin, Texas, passed away at 3:00 A.M. Wednesday, Feburary 11, 2015, at St. David's Hospital, Austin, Texas. Herk was born in Sharon on April 15, 1939, to Maurice J. and Dorothy O'Hara Vath. He graduated from Sharon High School in 1958, and was a member of the undefeated 1956-1957 Class A Sharon Tigers basketball team which won the Pennsylvania state championship. He graduated from Edinboro University. In November, 1963, he married Diane Hassel, SHS Class of 1959. He served in the 9th Infantry Division of the United States Army in the Vietnam War from 1967 to 1968 and was wounded in the Mekong Delta. He was a lifelong sportsman and enjoyed umpiring high school and college baseball and softball games in the area. He is survived by his wife, Diane, three sons, Jim of Austin, Texas, Jeffrey and his wife Heeseung of Austin, Texas, and John and his wife Adrienne of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; and seven grandchildren, Casey, Connor, Quin, Regan, Heaton, Kincaid, and Beckett. A memorial service was held on Saturday, March 14, 2015, at Lane Madasz Chapel, Brookfield, Ohio. Burial was at Brookfield Township Cemetery. | ![]() |
