John Basil "Jack" Scott

John Basil "Jack" Scott, 64, of 4310 Cheena Drive, Houston, Texas, died at 7:10 P.M. Monday, February 28, 2005, in South West Memorial Hospital in Houston. He was born April 28, 1940, in Sharon to Basil C. Scott, former mayor of Sharon, and Ruth Shartle Scott. He was not married. Jack graduated from Hiram College in 1962 with a degree in mathematics, and received a master's degree from Case Western Reserve University. He worked as a mathematician for Texaco and Shell Oil Companies in Houston before returning to school and earning a Ph.D. in mathematics from the University of Houston. He then returned to his great love, teaching, and taught mathematics in the Houston Community College System until he was unable to work due to illness. He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant sister, Denise, and was survived by his brother, Ronald S. Scott, of Connellsville, Pennsylvania, and his family. Burial was at Evergreen Cemetery, Houston.
