Elizabeth Canon (Moore) Stalbird

Elizabeth Canon (Moore) Stalbird, 76, of 30111 Goldfinch Drive, Bonanza, Oregon, passed away peacefully at 4:30 A.M. on July 4, 2017, at Skylakes Medical Center, Klamath Falls, Oregon. Liz was born January 31, 1941, in Sharon, to Harvey E. and Helen T. Moore, and grew up in Sharon. She attended Jefferson Elementary School, Sharon Junior High School, and graduated from Sharon High School in 1958. She also graduated from California State University, Fullerton. She married her husband, Norman L. Stalbird, on September 23, 1994, in Medford, Oregon. Liz worked for Jackson County Community Service, which places and monitors offenders who are sentenced to community service, for 24 1/2 years. She instituted a GED program as well as AA and NA programs to aid inmates in their ability to obtain employment once they were released, which decreased recidivism. She was active in the community, participating in the American Association of University Women (AAUW) for 24 years, president in 1971 of League of Women Voters, and SMART (improving student learning), and served as Road District Treasurer for over 12 years. Liz traveled extensively with friends on her Honda Goldwing motorcycle, and later enjoyed camping and RVing. She is survived by her husband, Norman; children, Caroline Gardner and James Reed; step-daughter, Nicole Stalbird; sister, Dr. Margery Moore-Smith, DVM, and brother, Thomas Moore; and numerous grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents.
