Former Sharon High School teacher Marjorie Marie Bailey, 87, the wife of Thomas S. Bailey, of Golden Palms Retirement Center, Harlingen, Texas, died on Tuesday, February 17, 2009, in her residence. She was born March 22, 1921, on a farm near Camden, Indiana, a daughter of Jesse and Edna Martin Yeager. She graduated from Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana, in 1942. While at Purdue, she met her husband, Tom, whom she married September 20, 1942. They moved in 1951 to Sharon, where Margie taught physical education and home economics at Sharon High School and Junior High School until her retirement in the early 1980s. For many years, she taught adult Sunday school at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, Hermitage. In 1989 they moved to Harlingen so Margie could pursue her favorite pastimes, golf and swimming. In 1999, they moved to Golden Palms Retirement Center, Harlingen, where she continued to be very active with duplicate bridge, water aerobics, swimming, walking and other activities. They attended First United Methodist Church in Harlingen.
She is survived by her husband, Thomas S. Bailey, Harlingen; her daughter, Wanda Huffman, Cloverdale, California; her son, Thomas W. Bailey, Palmyra, Virginia; three grandchildren; and, her sister, Virginia Marcellino, Camden. She was preceded in death by a brother and three sisters. A memorial service was held on Saturday, February 21, 2009, in the Texas Room at Golden Palms Retirement Center, Harlingen.
